This year The Wilfred Owen Association AGM will be held at St Anne’s College, Oxford. In the afternoon there will be a memorial event to commemorate our much-loved Vice President, Dominic Hibberd, who sadly died last year.
The AGM will take place at 11.30am in Seminar Room 8 of St Anne’s College. A sandwich and fruit lunch will be available after the meeting and the memorial event will take place from 2.30pm at the same venue. Tea, coffee and wine or juice by the glass may be bought at the end of the event.
We do hope many of our members will come to the AGM and particularly to the memorial event, to which non-members are extremely welcome. In 2007 Philip Bartle, Tom Coulthard, Geoff Fox, Anne Harvey and Graham Holliday were invited, by Dominic Hibberd, to give readings from the anthology The Winter of the World, and now join together to present a memorial for Dominic. It will consist of a programme of poems by Wilfred Owen and Harold Monro, accompanied by Dominic’s writings about them both and a re-enactment of an interview in which Dominic talks to the critic Michael Benton about writing Owen’s biography.
Dominic, who died in August 2012, made an outstanding contribution to the knowledge of First Wold War literature. Members of The Wilfred Owen Association Committee will also add their thoughts.
The entrance to St Anne’s is in Woodstock Road, Oxford. Please go to the Porter’s Lodge, in Ruth Deech Lodge and you will be directed to the venue. Parking is extremely difficult in Oxford and we would advise those of you intending to come by car to park at the Pear Tree Park & Ride and take the bus to Woodstock Road. There is a stop virtually outside the college. Alternatively, there are taxis and buses available from outside Oxford station.
If you would like to join us for lunch in St Anne’s after the AGM, sandwiches and fruit will be available, with tea and coffee at £10 a head. Wine and juice may be bought by the glass. PLEASE LET VANESSA DAVIS KNOW BY THE 21ST OCTOBER, AT THE LATEST, IF YOU WISH TO HAVE LUNCH, as this will have to be ordered from the College.
For more information, to book a place at the memorial event and to order your lunch at St Anne’s, please contact Vanessa Davis on 020 8947 0476 email: vcedavis@hotmail.com
