This January Theatre Severn welcomes renowned actor Timothy West to pay tribute to local poet Wilfred Owen. Produced in association with the Imperial War Museum The Pity of War is a moving show reflecting on the trials and tribulations of the First World War.
Timothy West will be reading a selection of Owen’s poetry and letters written between 1917 and 1918. The writings reveal Owen’s own moral courage and humanity on triumphing over the worst possible conditions and give the audience an insight into life during wartime.
Respected violinist Matthew Trusler and internationally acclaimed pianist Martin Roscoe will join the actor on stage accompanying the readings with sonatas by Elgar, Janacek, and Debussy. All of the musical pieces were written during the Great War and provide a wonderfully emotional backdrop to Owen’s work.
The Pity of War will be performed at 5pm on Sunday 26 January. Tickets priced from £10 - £17.50 and are available from the Box Office (01743 281281) or online at www.theatresevern.co.uk.
